Introducing the Awards 2020 issue of Gramophone

Wednesday, October 7, 2020

We celebrate the outstanding recordings and most inspiring musicians of the past year. PLUS, the peerless legacy of Itzhak Perlman

In the Awards issue of Gramophone, on sale from October 7, we bring you a full report of the biggest classical event of the year – the Gramophone Awards 2020. We name the 10 category winners, and invite a critic to assess each one – which qualities make these 10 recordings such worthy winners? We also reveal the recipients of our highly anticipated special awards, including Orchestra of the Year – the only category voted for by the public – and announce the much-coveted Recording of the Year.

Elsewhere, Mike Ashman surveys the available recordings of Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio, and names his favourite, and Editor Martin Cullingford talks to French guitarist Thibaut Garcia about the challenges of playing, and recording, Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez.

Plus, as always, our world-leading critics review the latest classical music releases on CD, DVD and download – with the best being crowned ‘Editor’s Choice’.
